The school is established in 1883 under the guidance of and donations from the zamindar of 'bangArupALyaM', a manDala head quarters about 20 km away. The school had seen many glory days and has been one of the main centres of learning for many generations of students. Many of them came to the town from nearby villages and proceeded to break the traditional barriers of social standing, wealth and caste. It was progressive enough to have had girls as the head students by the time of India's independence (My own mother, Adluri Lakshmi Manikyam was School Pupil's Leader -SPL). In recent years, the school became a bit run down. No furniture for the students to sit in, not much by way of labs and other equipment. Although the committee sees tobe trying to raise some funds, the school, like many of the other Aided schools is likely to be closed down by the government. At least that is what the staff told me on a recent trip. No new appointments are being carried out by the government. If a staff member retires, no chance of replacement. There only two options for the betterment of the school. Former students raise enough funds to upgrade it, or the Government takes over fully. If you are concerned about this, think it over and perhaps something can be done.

This is the old bus stand and is still in use since the late 1940s. The city traders and politicians did not want to close down the stand (and use the prized land for recreation or for other purposes) because it is the centre of business. Therefore, the place although quite run down, stays. The city cannot do much by way of real improvements since there is no construction window where the space is available. It never sleeps. The private busses usually use this area. The government busses use the APSRTC stand on the otherside of the overbridge (and the railway station). Even the APSRTC busses come near this place for a quick loading or unloading of passesngers.
